The Transport Canada Civil Aviation has awarded certification to Bell’s new twin-engine helicopter, the 429.

The Pratt & Whitney engine-powered 429 can fly eight passengers and has a 2,700lb payload capacity.

The chopper’s key features include a 20% higher power-to-weight ratio and 30% larger cabin volume when compared with other helicopters in its class, the company claims.

The helicopter has been developed after consultations with customer advisory boards on design needs.

The Bell copter also conforms to Federal Aviation Administration certification norms. Deliveries are scheduled to commence from July 2009.
