Orix has acquired a 30% interest in Avolon from Bohai Capital for $2.2bn through its Irish aircraft leasing subsidiary Orix Aviation Systems.

The acquisition will increase Orix’s aircraft leasing business, while expanding its presence in the global aircraft leasing market.

Based in Dublin, Ireland, Avolon provides aircraft leasing services to airline companies.

AVIC Cabin System signed an agreement to purchase AVIC Hubei Ali-Jiatai Aircraft Equipment from AviChina Industry & Technology Company, AVIC Aerospace Life-Support Industries, and AVIC International Development Aero-Development.

The AVIC Cabin System provides integrated cabin interior solutions for the aerospace industry, while Hubei ALI-Jiatai Aircraft Equipment produces aircraft seats, cabin equipment, and aviation parts.

GKN Aerospace has entered an agreement with Chinese firms AVIC International and Shanghai Aircraft Manufacturing Company (SAMC) to form a joint venture (JV).

The China-based JV will manufacture aerostructures for the civil aerospace market beginning Q4 2021.

Based in the UK, GKN manufactures aerostructures, propulsion systems, and transparencies.

SAMC manufactures commercial aircraft parts, while AVIC develops solutions for aerospace and defence applications.

Bombardier has agreed to sell its Business Aircraft Training (BAT) unit to CAE for $645m.

The BAT business comprises a modern fleet of full-flight simulators (FFSs) and training devices covering the Learjet, Challenger, and Global jets.

Expected to close next year, the acquisition will strengthen CAE to meet training requirements of customers operating Bombardier business jets.

CAE will also pay $155m to Bombardier for the monetisation of the existing future royalty obligations under the Authorised Training Provider (ATP) agreement.

Portalliance Engineering has been acquired by STELIA Aerospace, a manufacturer of aerostructures and aircraft seating.

Portalliance Engineering, an SME involved in modelisation and digital simulation of structural calculation, will operate as a subsidiary of STELIA Aerospace.

Boeing has partnered with SparkCognition to set up a new company named SkyGrid in Austin, Texas, US, to integrate autonomous cargo and passenger air vehicles in the global airspace.

SkyGrid will develop a platform, which will incorporate blockchain technology, data analytics, artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled dynamic traffic routing, and cybersecurity features to enable safe operation of unmanned aircraft systems.
