Bombardier Aerostructures and Engineering Services has won a contract from Airbus to provide new engine nacelles for its A320neo aircraft powered by Pratt & Whitney’ Pure Power PW1100G engines.

Under the contract, Bombardier’s Northern Ireland unit will develop and manufacture a new thrust reverser for the selected Airbus A320neo aircraft programme.

It will also allow Airbus to provide a new nacelle and its aftermarket services for the Pure Power PW1100G engine.

“This work package reinforces our long-term strategy to grow our capabilities in the nacelles market.”

Bombardier Aerostructures and Engineering Services customer services and programmes vice-president Stephen Addis said: “This work package reinforces our long-term strategy to grow our capabilities in the nacelles market and to focus on delivering innovative, higher value products and services in an extremely competitive global environment.”

The company currently has operations in Canada, Mexico, Morocco, the UK and the US.

With more than 40 years of experience, Bombardier Aerostructures and Engineering Services is primarily involved in the design and manufacture of complex metallic and composite aircraft structures and system components.

The company also offers aftermarket component repair and overhaul, as well as other engineering services.

In October, Bombardier signed an agreement with Airbus on the joint development of its C Series aircraft.

As part of the deal, Airbus will offer procurement, sales and marketing, as well as customer support expertise to the C Series Aircraft Limited Partnership (CSALP), which manufactures and sells the C Series aircraft.

Airbus will also buy a 50.01% interest in CSALP, thereby allowing Bombardier and Investissement Québec (IQ) to respectively own around 31% and 19% shares in CSALP.
