Boeing has secured a set of orders from Royal Air Maroc (RAM) for four new 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, which are collectively worth $1.1bn.

Two of the ordered aircraft were purchased in December 2016, while the remaining two were bought last December.

The orders were previously listed as unidentified on Boeing’s orders and delivery website.

The new aircraft are expected to help RAM to expand its international network and will increase the airline’s fleet of 787 family aircraft to a total of nine units.

“Ordering new-generation planes such as the Dreamliner puts our airline on the right track to fulfill our vision.”

RAMCEO and chairman Abdelhamid Addou said: “Today, Royal Air Maroc has direct flights to 80 international destinations.

“Thanks to our unique position as a geographic hub and high-quality of service, we bring customers from all over the world to their destinations. With more than 850 flights per month to Africa, Royal Air Maroc has the broadest presence across the continent of any airline.

“Ordering new-generation planes such as the Dreamliner puts our airline on the right track to fulfill our vision.”

RAM currently flies its 787 aircraft fleet to various international routes from Casablanca, Morocco, to North America, South America, the Middle East and Europe.

The carrier’s current fleet includes more than 56 Boeing airplanes.

Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner family of aircraft is designed to accommodate 290 passengers and up to 14,140km in a typical two-class configuration.

The aircraft is also capable of reducing fuel consumption and carbon emissions by 20% compared to its predecesor.
