Boeing has finalised a $6.24bn order with Indonesia’s Lion Air Group for 50 737 MAX 10 aircraft.

Lion Air Group is also planning to place a provisional order to buy Boeing 787 widebody jets. However, the company has not disclosed details on the number of aircraft to be ordered, reported Reuters.

Lion Air Group was the launch customer of Boeing’s 737 MAX 8 aircraft and was the first to place an order for 737 MAX 9.

Last month, the company took delivery of a 737 MAX 9, which will be deployed to open several new international routes.

“So far, Boeing has secured more than 4,400 737 MAX jet orders from 96 customers worldwide.”

Lion Air Group president director Edward Sirait said: “Lion Air is very excited to be a launch customer of the latest version of the 737. This airplane delivers a new level of fuel efficiency and operating economics and fits in perfectly with our fleet of modern airplanes.”

The 737 MAX family of airplanes offers 130 to 230 seats and has the ability to fly up to 7,130km.

So far, Boeing has secured more than 4,400 737 MAX jet orders from 96 customers worldwide.

In a separate development, Boeing signed a letter of intent with Qatar Airways to provide five 777 Freighter aircraft, valued at $1.7bn.

Qatar Airways has approximately 100 additional Boeing planes on order. It currently operates a fleet of more than 100 Boeing widebody aircraft.
