Major US carrier American Airlines (AA) and travel technology company Fareportal have extended their long-term relationship with the signing of a new five-year agreement.

The agreement emphasises Fareportal’s role in supporting the carrier’s new Main Plus offer.

AA’s Main Plus tickets include complimentary access to Main Cabin Extra and preferred seats if available, preferred boarding (Group 5), and one more free checked bag, which comes in addition to the Main Cabin allowance.

American Airlines digital and distribution managing director Neil Geurin said: “Fareportal has been an important partner to American for years and entering this next phase in our relationship together is an exciting milestone.

“We’re optimistic about the successful NDC integration and look forward to making it even easier for customers to access the content that interests them in the future.”

Fareportal and American started their partnership in 2012.

The agreement comes as the travel industry sees signs of renewed interest from American consumers after severely hit by the coronavirus pandemic last year.

Headquartered in New York, Fareportal enables customers to book online, through mobile apps or live chat while providing its airline partners with access to a broad customer base.

It provides customers with access to more than 600 airlines. Its travel brands portfolio includes online travel agencies CheapOair and One Travel.

Fareportal supplier relations EVP Chema Alvarado said: “Fareportal and American Airlines both understand the importance of providing the best content in the places where customers prefer to shop. Our NDC integration has created a successful platform to support those goals.”
