Vistara signs $2.4bn CFM LEAP-1A engine order for Airbus A320neo

Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines’ joint venture Vistara signed an order with CFM for 26 LEAP-1A engines for its 13 new Airbus A320neo and ten leased aircraft.

The company ordered the 13 A320neo aircraft in July 2018 with delivery expected by the end of this month. These are in addition to 37 leased aircraft from the A320neo family.

In addition to the engine order, Vistara signed a long-term Rate Per Flight Hour (RPFH) agreement for maintenance services.


Embraer secures $1.4bn business jet contract from Flexjet

Brazilian company Embraer signed a $1.4bn purchase agreement with global fractional private jet travel company Flexjet.

Under this agreement, Embraer will deliver its fleet of business jets, including the Phenom 300 light and Praetor mid-sized and super-midsized aircraft.

The deal also makes Flexjet the launch customer of Embraer’s Praetor fleet.


IndiGo orders 300 A320neo family aircraft from Airbus

India-based low-cost carrier IndiGo ordered 300 A320neo family aircraft from Airbus, increasing its total number of orders to 730.

The new order includes A320neo, A321neo and A321XLR aircraft.

Although the engine manufacturer for this order has not been finalised yet, IndiGo chief aircraft acquisition and financing officer Riyaz Peermohamed noted that the selection will be made later.


Spirit Airlines orders up to 100 A320neo aircraft from Airbus

Low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Airbus for the purchase of up to 100 A320neo Family aircraft.

The orders comprise a mix of A319neo, A320neo, and A321neo, and are part of the company’s plans to meet its future fleet requirements.

Spirit Airlines president and CEO Ted Christie said: “This new order represents another milestone for Spirit.”


Hanwha Aerospace acquires EDAC Technologies for $300m

South Korea’s Hanwha Group unit completed the purchase of US-headquartered aviation engine component maker EDAC Technologies, for around $300m.

The two companies signed an agreement for the acquisition of 100% of the shares of EDAC Technologies on 10 June. The deal closure comes after the necessary approvals from regulatory and other authorities were received.

EDAC Technologies president and CEO Ben Adams said: “Teaming with Hanwha Aerospace will allow for continued investment in our workforce, process development and manufacturing capabilities.”

Gazprom and Thales to partner on spacecraft assembly project

Franco-Italian aerospace manufacturer Thales Alenia Space agreed to collaborate with Gazprom Space Systems on a spacecraft assembly project.

The letter of intent signed between the companies will focus on the launch of spacecraft production.

The development took place at the ninth St Petersburg International Gas Forum. In January, both parties reached a memorandum of understanding.


James Webb Space Telescope clears launch stress tests

Northrop Grumman announced that James Webb Space Telescope has successfully cleared launch stress tests in preparation for its launch in 2021.

The tests involved a series of post-test checkouts and deployments, as well as the five-layer sunshield deployment exercise.

Northrop Grumman James Webb Space Telescope vice-president and programme manager Scott Willoughby said: “The Northrop Grumman and Nasa team has further validated that the James Webb Space Telescope can communicate and deploy as we have rehearsed in simulations, after launch.”
