Rolls-Royce has received a $1.7bn order from Singapore Airlines to provide Trent 1000 engines to power 19 Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.

The deal also includes Rolls-Royce’s TotalCare engine support service.

It is in addition to an order placed by SIA Group in 2013 for Trent 1000 engines to power 50 aircraft.

The airline has also signed a contract with Rolls-Royce to receive support under SelectCare programme for the Trent 700 engines powering the carrier’s 11 Airbus A330 aircraft.

Rolls-Royce’s SelectCare is a fixed-price overhaul agreement that offers the company’s engine health monitoring and aftermarket services, as well as help plan fleet servicing and other benefits.

The service is a part of Rolls-Royce Care Services available through its CareStore.

Rolls-Royce has also signed an agreement with Thai Airways International (THAI) to provide additional testbed capacity to support its Trent programme activity.

Under the deal, Rolls-Royce will use THAI’s test bed at Don Mueang Airport in Thailand to support its Trent XWB engine programme, while THAI will conduct maturity and cyclic testing on the engine to offer complete understanding of engine performance over a sustained period of operation.

THAI’s test bed at Don Mueang Airport is a 13m-long platform that is capable of producing 150,000lb of thrust. It is primarily used to carry out a limited number of engine pass-off tests.
