Trident Jet (Jersey), has placed an order for four additional CRJ900 aircraft to Bombardier Commercial Aircraft for lease to Irish regional airline CityJet.

The order is valued at around $183.9m, based on list prices.

A sister company of UK-based lessor Falko Regional Aircraft, Trident Jet signed a firm purchase agreement with Bombardier last October for eight CRJ900 aircraft and six options.

The new order exercised four of those options and will be operated by CityJet.

The eight previously ordered aircraft are allocated to and operated by CityJet on a wet lease basis on behalf of Scandinavian Airlines (SAS).

"These deliveries are a major milestone for us, being the first brand new aircraft to be delivered to CityJet in its 23-year history."

Bombardier also delivered the first five of eight CRJ900 aircraft ordered last October to CityJet.

CityJet executive chairman Pat Byrne said: "These deliveries are a major milestone for us, being the first brand new aircraft to be delivered to CityJet in its 23-year history."

The airline is currently operating a fleet of 18 Avro RJ85 jets on its own scheduled network, mainly serving London City Airport, UK, and wet lease services for Air France from Paris.

Bombardier has currently booked a total of 1,887 firm orders for CRJ series aircraft, which includes more than 100 owners and operators in 40 countries.

According to Bombardier, the worldwide fleet of CRJ series has already logged more than 43.5 million flight hours.
