Swedish aerospace firm Saab has entered into a five-year contract British Midland Regional airline (BMI Regional) to provide component maintenance and the repair services for the carrier’s fleet of Embraer 145 and Embraer 135 aircraft.

For the period 2013-2018, the total value of the contract is Skr105m ($16.4m), with Skr65m ($10.1m) having already been paid.

The contract covers 18 aircraft and approximately 400 components and the services include a fixed power by the hour price, guaranteed turn-around times, engineering services, transportation and a 24/7 service desk.

Saab business area support and services head Lars-Erik Wige said that this contract was a crucial milestone in capturing a market share in a highly competitive market.

"This will further extend our long-term relationship with BMI Regional and Saab is looking forward to work in partnership with them," Wige added.

“The contract covers 18 aircraft and approximately 400 components and the services include a fixed power by the hour price.”

Powered by two Rolls-Royce engines mounted on pylons on the rear section of the fuselage, the Embraer 145 and Embraer 135 jetliners can accommodate up to 50 and 37 passengers in a three in-a-row seating configuration.

Both aeroplanes feature Honeywell Primus 1000 digital avionics suite with dual digital air data computers, dual attitude, heading and reference system (AHRS), a traffic alert and collision avoidance system (TCAS) and a ground proximity warning system (GPWS).

BMI Regional operates more than 600 flights a week to 17 destinations across the UK and Europe.

Saab’s business area support and services provide component maintenance and repairs for commercial aeroplanes, helicopters and military aircraft across the global market.
