UK-based aircraft engine manufacturer Rolls-Royce has delivered four Trent 900 engines to UAE-based airline Emirates, as part of a $9.2bn order placed last year.

Assembled at Rolls-Royce site at Derby, the newly delivered ‘shipset’ of four engines will be installed in an Airbus A380 aircraft.

The Trent 900 engines will be equipped with 50 Emirates A380 aircraft, the first of which will enter service later this year.

The engines have so far secured more than 50% of the market share on the aircraft, especially by A380 customers.

Rolls-Royce is also providing Trent 900 engines and TotalCare service for 50 Emirates A380s, while Emirates recently confirmed that it will operate two more A380s, which will be powered by the same engine with TotalCare service support.

Components for the engines are manufactured by several Rolls-Royce facilities across the UK, including Sunderland, Bristol, Ansty, Barnoldswick and Inchinnan, Scotland.

The Trent 900 is assembled in Derby and Singapore.

Rolls-Royce noted that the Trent 900 powered the first commercial A380 jet in 2007 and is now used by eight operators on more than 70 aircraft, having logged around five million in-service flight hours.

The engine claims to provide the lowest lifetime fuel burn, with the latest version featuring technology developed for the Trent XWB and Trent 1000 engines.

The company currently has customers in more than 120 countries, including more than 400 airlines.
