Millenium

Millennium Space Systems is expanding its existing spacecraft factory in El Segundo, California, US, which is located close to the Los Angeles Air Force Base and the Aerospace Corporation.

This 35,000ft2, Phase-3 expansion is expected to be completed later this year.

The expansion is intended to create more space to widen the company’s current on-site mission operations, rapid prototyping, internal research and development laboratories, and high-tech workspace.

Millennium Space Systems chairman and CEO Stan Dubyn said: "With this Phase-3 facility expansion, we’re putting into place the additional manufacturing and production processes and infrastructure to build hundreds of satellites each year, sparked by the work started with us by DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency), on the SeeMe Programme, where the demand was to provide a sustaining capability to build 24 satellites on 90-day call-ups.

"With this Phase-3 facility expansion, we’re putting into place the additional manufacturing and production processes and infrastructure to build hundreds of satellites each year."

"We just hit our second year at the new spacecraft factory. This next big step adds to our capacity to continue designing, manufacturing, testing, delivering, and operating a wide range of satellites and components from our Altair™ and Aquila™ platform lines."

Local companies, including Smith & Severson Builders and Withee Malcolm Architects, are also involved in the expansion, with financial support provided by Community Bank.

Millennium Space Systems opened the 70,000ft² El Segundo facility in 2014.

The company designs flight systems and develops mission and system solutions for the US Department of Defense and commercial customers.
