UK-based radar technology company Aveillant has sold its Gamekeeper drone detection radar system to provide security and privacy over Monaco in Western Europe.

Under a strategic partnership with JCPX Development, the system will be installed at a site in the principality later this year as the core element of JCPX’s comprehensive counter-UAV solution, which also includes high-resolution cameras and radio-jamming devices.

Designed to detect targets down to 0.01m² cross section, the Gamekeeper radar has a range of up to 5km.

Aveillant noted that its Holographic Radar technology does not scan across an area the way a traditional radar does, but constantly floodlights a volume of space, gathering 3D position and motion information from all targets.

This phenomenon gives a detection and tracking capability beyond that of other radars.

Aveillant also uses Holographic Radar technology in the Theia range of primary surveillance radars in order to provide infill coverage for air traffic control over wind turbines.

With the company’s counter UAV solution, JCPX Development expects to provide a complete system to prevent the challenge posed by drone in a real urban environment.

JCPX stated that its system could detect, identify, track and jam small UAVs to ensure safety of people and sensitive areas and along with Aveillant, the company aims to build a tailored system to meet the customer’s needs.

Last May, Aveillant announced that it had conducted a series of tests of its holographic radar in order to prove the technology’s ability to detect and track drones.
