Boeing 787 aircraft

American International’s subsidiary International Lease Finance (ILFC) has signed an agreement with Grupo Aeromexico to lease two additional new Boeing 787-8 aircraft, increasing Mexican airline’s total aircraft leased from ILFC to five.

Grupo Aeromexico CEO Andres Conesa said the addition of these two Boeing 787 aircraft to the company’s current fleet of five, two which were ordered from Boeing and three previously leased from ILFC will support its expansion plan.

"These aircraft will be deployed on our long-haul routes, ultimately replacing 767 aircraft and allowing us to continue providing high-quality service while proudly representing Mexico worldwide," Conesa said.

The two twin aisle Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners are powered by GEnx engines and can cruise at a speed of Mach 0.85 consuming 20% less fuel.

Each of the aircraft can accommodate about 210 to 250 passengers and has a range 7,650 to 8,200nm while having a takeoff weight of about 227,930 kg.

The 787 family Dreamliners will incorporate airplane health-monitoring systems that facilitate them to self-monitor and report systems maintenance requirements to ground-based computer systems.

ILFC said that the aircraft are scheduled for delivery in the first half of 2014.

Grupo Aeromexico operates flights from Mexico City International Airport to different cities in Mexico, US, Canada, Central and South America, and Europe and Asia.

ILFC has commitments to buy 252 new fuel-efficient aircraft as well as rights to purchase an additional 50 such aircraft.
