The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) has announced Achievement Awards to engineering and technology experts across various industries, with winners including Gavin Campbell from Bombardier Aerospace.

Gavin Campbell is Belfast-based Bombardier Aerospace design engineering and technology development director, and scooped the Mensforth Manufacturing Gold Medal. He handles a team of 500 at Bombardier’s Belfast operations.

"The IET Achievement Awards recognise individuals who have made a truly outstanding contribution to engineering and technology, from talented young professionals through to engineers at the pinnacle of their careers."

Campbell and the team have conducted R&D into advanced materials, design and analysis methodologies, manufacturing, tooling and metrology.

IET president William Webb said: "The IET Achievement Awards recognise individuals who have made a truly outstanding contribution to engineering and technology, from talented young professionals through to engineers at the pinnacle of their careers.

"The IET is passionate about promoting engineering excellence and the Achievement Awards showcase some of the world’s best engineering talent."

An IET judge panel has shortlisted the winners, who will receive the awards on 19 November.

IET is one of the major organisations for engineers and technicians with around 160,000 members in 127 countries worldwide.
