GE Aviation has formed a strategic alliance with US-based Teradata to jointly offer products and services driven by analytics for specified commercial aviation markets, including airlines.

The partnership will use GE’s Predix-based solutions and Teradata’s software to help customers use analytics to solve complex issues.

GE Aviation’s operations, assets and networks will be combined with Teradata’s customer information, sales and marketing, as well as back-office support under the collaboration.

“The aviation market will gain an analytic solution that delivers comprehensive insights.”

The combination is expected to actively manage flight disruptions, improve flight operations and predictive maintenance among others.

GE Aviation Digital Solutions chief commercial officer Andrew Coleman said: “For data and analytics, it became clear that Teradata excels at the size and scale required by a global airline.

“By integrating our expertise in asset performance management and operations optimisation, with Teradata’s ability to drive customer insights using massive amounts of data and multi-genre analytics, the aviation market will gain an analytic solution that delivers comprehensive insights.”

The analytics will be used by Teradata software to create a flexible and scalable solution for the aviation market.

Handling a growing volume of data, the global airline industry is expected to benefit from the analytics.

Technologies from both GE and Teradata are designed to be working in a hybrid Cloud environment with built-in support for various premises and public cloud vendors.

GE Aviation currently offers industrial apps powered by its Predix platform, which is an edge-to-Cloud development platform that connects engines, aircraft and operations before evaluating a continuous data stream to provide real-time actionable intelligence output.
