Helicopter and fixed-wing simulators manufacturer Frasca International has delivered three new flight training devices (FTDs), two Cessna 172R FTDs and a CRJ-200 Level 5 FTD, to Southern Illinois University (SIU) Carbondale.

SIU has also upgraded its existing Frasca 172R FTD to have the same features as the two new 172R devices, including G1000, a three-channel projected cylindrical visual display and low-profile instructor cab.

The CRJ-200 Level 5 FTD features a three channel 220°x58° spherical visual display system.

The four FTDs are networked so that they are viewed as traffic in the visual display of each FTD and they also feature TruVision Global and a custom visual database for KMDH.

The Cessna172 FTDs allows SIU to provide efficient training for its new fleet of Cessna G1000 C172 airliner and the expanded visual displays and custom database facilitate more VFR training.

According to Frasca, the addition of the Level 5 CRJ will allow the university to meet advanced training requirements, enabling its graduates to go on to a career in the airline industry.

"The addition of the Level 5 CRJ will allow the university to meet advanced training requirements."

Frasca International stated that by installing these devices, SIU reinforces its presence as one of the leading flight training universities in the country.

The investment in quality training equipment allows SIU to provide more efficient training and accelerate students’ transition to proficiency in operating the aircraft, the company said.

SIU currently has eight Frasca FTDs in their flight training programmes.

In April, Frasca International received an order from Seneca College, Ontario, Canada for a Baron King Air 200 FTD, which is scheduled to be delivered in early 2014.

Seneca College currently uses various Frasca devices in their programme, including CRJ, Baron, Bonanza and C172 FTDs.
