Qatar satellite firm Es’hailSat has selected SES TechCom, a wholly owned subsidiary of SES, to provide consultancy services on its proposed development of teleport facility.

Planned to be built on a green field site north of Doha, the teleport will serve Es’hailsat’s customers with a wide range of satellite ground station and platform services.

It will also offer up-linking and reception facilities for Es’hailSat’s business partners.

"The establishment of our own teleport in Qatar is an integral part of the Es’hailSat programme, giving us a secure and independent satellite infrastructure."

With this deal, Es’hailSat will have access to technical and engineering know-how of SES.

Es’hailsat CEO Ali Ahmed Al-Kuwari said: "The establishment of our own teleport in Qatar is an integral part of the Es’hailSat programme, giving us a secure and independent satellite infrastructure."

SES TechCom will create a new satellite facility in partnership with Es’hailSat’s project management team and contractors.

SES TechCom managing director Gerhard Bethscheider said: "SES operates several of the largest and most successful teleports in the world and this with an unrivalled experience in the design and operation of such facilities.

"This initial contract has the potential to foster a long standing partnership between our two organisations."

The teleport site will provide satellite control and communications support for the Es’hail 2 satellite, which is to be launched at 26° E in the fourth quarter of 2016.
