The Elbe Flugzeugwerke (EFW) 55:45 joint venture between Singapore Technologies Aerospace (ST Aerospace) and Airbus Group will establish a new subsidiary in Kodersdorf, Germany, with a planned equity of €5.5m.

ST Aerospace is the aerospace arm of Singapore Technologies Engineering (ST Engineering).

The proposed subsidiary will set up a new facility for the production of lightweight components, primarily comprising floor panels and cargo linings, for single-aisle Airbus aircraft.

To be opened with a €40m investment, the new facility will cover an area of 30,000m².

"The new production facility is a part of EFW’s component production business expansion plan."

It will include a component manufacturing factory, new equipment and toolings.

Planned to be operational by first half of 2018, the new production facility is a part of EFW’s component production business expansion plan.

Once completed, the new facility will supplement EFW’s existing production line in Dresden, Germany.

By the end of 2018, the new subsidiary will create around 100 new jobs.

EFW provides several aviation and technology activities, such as passenger-to-freighter aircraft conversions, maintenance and repair of Airbus aircraft.

It also provides development and production of flat fibre-reinforced composite components for structures and interiors of the entire Airbus family of aircraft.

The company is the exclusive supplier of composite flat sandwich panels to Airbus.

In May, ST Aerospace added to its pro rata share of $24.5m, as additional capital into its China-based airframe maintenance, repair and overhaul joint venture company ST Aerospace (Guangzhou) Aviation Services Company.

The additional funding has been made in support of ST Aerospace (Guangzhou) Aviation Services Company’s expansion and business growth.
