A report by Boeing has forecast that demand for new aeroplanes in China will reach 6,020 over the next 20 years.

Boeing’s annual China Current Market Outlook (CMO) predicts that the total value of the new aeroplanes at $870bn.

Aircraft deliveries to Chinese airlines will account for around 45% of the total demand for aircraft in the Asia Pacific region during the forecast period.

Boeing Commercial Airplanes Marketing vice-president Randy Tinseth said: "China’s aviation market is going through dynamic changes.

"New business models like low-cost carriers and airplane leasing companies, a new generation of fuel-efficient airplanes and evolving consumer needs are driving demand for more direct flights to more destinations."

The report also added that the emergence of start-up airlines and low-cost carriers will stimulate traffic by allowing more people to fly.

Total single-aisle aircraft deliveries until 2033 are estimated to reach 4,340 driven by tourism in China and intra-Asia travel.

"To compete in the tough long-haul international market, our Chinese customers are focused on evolving new business models, adding new destinations, increasing their capacity and resources."

Increase in international flying from secondary cities apart from Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou will drive Chinese airlines with global networks to expand.

This growth in the long-haul segment is expected to result in demand for an additional 1,480 new fuel-efficient wide-bodied aircraft, according to Boeing.

Tinseth said: "To compete in the tough long-haul international market, our Chinese customers are focused on evolving new business models, adding new destinations, increasing their capacity and resources.

"These trends will shape market demand for an aeroplane lineup that has high efficiency, low operating costs, environmentally progressive technologies and a great passenger experience. We believe Boeing’s comprehensive wide-body portfolio is perfectly aligned to meet those needs."

Boeing projects worldwide investments of $5.2tn for 36,770 new commercial aircraft during the next 20 years with China representing 16% of the total demand in terms of new deliveries and market value.
