Philippines budget carrier Cebu Pacific Air (CEB) has taken delivery of a second A320 equipped with Sharklets from the Airbus facility in Hamburg, Germany.

Sharklets are an optional feature on the new-build A320 airliners, and are standard on all variants of the A320neo jets.

Made from lightweight composites, the 2.4m tall parts offer the flexibility of adding some 100nm more range or increasing payload capabilities of up to 992lb.

The wing-tip units enable carriers to reduce fuel burn by up to 4% on long-haul routes, according to Airbus.

The new A320 is CEB’s 43rd airliner adding to the carrier’s existing fleet, which comprises 25 A320s, 10 A319s and 8 ATR 72-500s.

With this fleet, the budget carrier is set to add new routes to meet increasing demand and provide more travel opportunities.

The carrier received its first A320 equipped with Sharklets in January this year, becoming the first operator of the fuel-saving wing-tip in the Philippines.

By 2021, CEB is expected to take delivery of 51 additional aircraft, including 17 Airbus A320, 30 Airbus A321neo and 4 A330-300s.

CEB operates flights to 34 domestic destinations and hubs in Manila, Cebu, Clark, Iloilo, Kalibo and Davao.

To date, Airbus has received more than 9,000 orders for A320 jetliners, with 5,400 having already been delivered to more than 380 customers and operators globally.

Earlier this week, UAE-based low cost carrier Air Arabia received its second A320 equipped with Sharklets.
