US-based diversified company Carlisle Companies Incorporated has purchased design and engineering provider Star Aviation for an undisclosed sum.

Star Aviation registers annual sales of around $30 million and currently operates manufacturing facilities in Mobile, Alabama, US, and a technical services facility in the US’ Lynnwood, Washington area.

With a workforce of 150 employees, the company provides Wi-Fi and other in-flight connectivity systems for various aircraft platforms used in commercial, business and military services.

Star Aviation will now operate under Carlisle Interconnect Technologies, which offers specialist wire and cable, and interconnect components for commercial and military aircraft.

"Star Aviation … will add significant engineering resources and technology to support our current initiatives in the very attractive in-flight connectivity sector."

Carlisle Interconnect Technologies also provides avionics systems, in-flight entertainment, communications systems and medical devices.

Carlisle Companies Incorporated president and CEO Christian Koch said: “Star Aviation is an excellent fit with Carlisle Interconnect Technologies and will add significant engineering resources and technology to support our current initiatives in the very attractive in-flight connectivity sector.

“Star Aviation provides Carlisle with established access to retrofit opportunities to complement our leading position in line-fit applications of in-flight connectivity systems.

“This acquisition furthers our growth initiatives into higher margin, highly engineered products.”

In June, the company acquired high-frequency coaxial wire and cable provider Micro-Coax.

Micro-Coax also provides cable assemblies for use in mission-critical RF / microwave platforms used by defence, satellite, test and measurement and other industrial customers.
