Boeing to provide 787 flight training to Scoot pilots

Boeing has been awarded a five-year contract to provide 787 flight training to Singapore-based airline Scoot’s pilots as the carrier seeks to switch to 787 Dreamliners.

A business unit of Boeing Commercial Aviation Services, Boeing Flight Services will provide training to Scoot pilots at its Singapore training campus.

A total of 32 Scoot pilots will undergo training at the campus this year.

Boeing Flight Services vice-president Sherry Carbary said: "Aviation opportunities, for airlines and pilots, are expanding rapidly in the Asia Pacific region, and we’re pleased to offer a robust network of experienced instructors and training devices close to our customers across the region."

Scoot CEO Campbell Wilson said: "This is an exciting time for Scoot, as we expand our services throughout the Asia Pacific region, and work with Boeing for world-class flight training."

The airline will receive 20 787s beginning in late-2014 that were originally ordered by its parent company Singapore Airlines.

Scoot currently runs 777s on medium and long-haul flights between Singapore and Sydney, Gold Coast, Bangkok, Taipei, Tokyo, Tianjin, Shenyang, Nanjing, Qingdao, Seoul, Perth and Hong Kong.

According to 2013 Boeing Pilot & Technician Outlook, approximately 498,000 new commercial airline pilots and 556,000 new maintenance technicians will be required to fly and maintain the aircraft entering the global fleet over the next two decades.

The report highlighted that in South East Asia, 51,500 pilots and 64,700 technicians will be required to fill the gap.
