Boeing has delivered the first 787 Dreamliner aircraft to Brunei’s flag carrier Royal Brunei Airlines, which is also the first for South East Asia.

The aircraft is the first of five Dreamliners ordered by the airline.

Royal Brunei Airlines’ new 787 Dreamliner has various passenger-friendly features, including larger, electronically dimmable windows and upgraded overhead luggage bins.

During flight, the aircraft is pressurised to a lower cabin altitude, and features higher humidity levels, enhanced air filtration and smoother ride technology.

"The aircraft is the first of five Dreamliners ordered by the airline."

Royal Brunei Airlines chairman Dermot Mannion said: "This exciting addition keeps passenger comfort and high-quality service at the heart of our airline and is yet another effort to ensure our fleet remains modern and offers peaceful and tranquil travel."

The aircraft is scheduled to being flying regionally to Singapore on 18 October, with long-haul service to London, through Dubai set for 1 December.

Royal Brunei expects to introduce a 100% Dreamliner long-haul service in Q2 2014 when it will use the 787 on flights to Melbourne, Australia.

The 787 Dreamliner is made primarily with composite materials that allow the aircraft to use 20% less fuel and emit 20% fewer carbon emissions, compared to similar sized aircraft.

Boeing Commercial Airplanes Asia Pacific and India Sales senior vice-president Dinesh Keskar added: "The choice is a testament to the airline’s commitment to offer the best possible service to its passengers and to operate the most efficient airplane flying today."
