AirAsia India

AirAsia India, a joint venture of Malaysia’s AirAsia, Tata Sons and Telestra Tradeplace, has received its first aircraft, an Airbus A320 with Sharklets.

It is the first in AirAsia India’s initial fleet of ten A320s, which will cater to India’s growing domestic air traffic.

Powered by CFM engines, AirAsia India’s new aircraft features an all-economy layout with a capacity to accommodate 180 passengers.

AirAsia India CEO Mittu Chandilya said Indian domestic traffic is growing quickly.

"India’s domestic air transport growth will propel it to be one of the largest civil aviation markets by 2032."

"AirAsia and Airbus have a long-standing, special relationship," Chandilya said. "We are fully confident that with our new A320 fleet we will provide the Indian passenger the service and convenient travel options already offered by the AirAsia Group elsewhere in the region."

Airbus’s A320 Family is a modern single aisle aircraft family, with nearly 10,200 aircraft ordered and more than 6,000 delivered to operators worldwide to date.

Airbus customers chief operating officer John Leahy said that in the next 20 years, more people will travel by air for the first time in India and China than anywhere else.

"India’s domestic air transport growth is leading the world and will propel India to be one of the largest civil aviation markets by 2032," Leahy said. "The launch of AirAsia India reflects this growth potential."
