Boeing to Use Chrome-Free Paint on GOL Plane

18 March 2010

A chrome-free primer will be applied by Boeing to a GOL Airlines 737-800 to reduce the environmental impact.

Boeing has introduced the new chrome-free primer as a part of its life-cycle approach to reduce environmental impact that will complement the chrome-free exterior decorative paint already used by the airframer.

Chrome is considered to be a carcinogen, and exposure levels are highly regulated.

The application will ease health and safety monitoring requirements, reduce the impact of the paint and stripping process, eliminate the need for off-site disposal areas and special handling of paint waste and clean up.

Boeing will apply the chrome-free paint and primer on its models for in-service evaluation. The company plans to make it a standard option in the future.
