India to Develop Third Launch Pad at Sriharikota

14 January 2010

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is planning to build a third launch pad at its space centre in Sriharikota that will be capable of launching the proposed reusable launch vehicle (RLV).

The launch pad will enable all future programmes of the ISRO, including manned spaceflight and the RLV.

The space agency has completed the preliminary design for the launch pad.

The third pad is under construction south of the spaceport's second pad and is expected to be complete by 2015.

The pad is expected to lift off the human space flight mission atop a GSLV rocket.
