General Dynamics subsidiary Gulfstream Aerospace has unveiled a new business jet, the Gulfstream G650.

The long-range G650 can fly up to 18 passengers to a distance of 7,000nm at Mach 0.92, making it the fastest flying civil aircraft.

The aircraft powered by Rolls-Royce BR725 engines also features improved take-off performance with an advanced flight deck, a PlaneViewTM II cockpit and an advanced aircraft health and trend monitoring system.

Gulfstream programmes, engineering and test senior vice president Pres Henne said that the G650 will set new levels of performance in aircraft capability, cabin environment and maintainability.

“The G650 offers unprecedented speed and range, superb takeoff performance, an all-new Gulfstream wing, best-in-class Rolls-Royce BR725 engines, and top-of-the-line aesthetics,” he said.

The aircraft will perform its first flight later in 2009. It is expected to be certified in 2011 and enter into service in 2012.
