Bombardier to cut CRJ jet production

22 September 2011

Bombardier, the Canadian aircraft and train maker, is cutting production of its flagship CRJ regional jet due to slowing demand.

Bombardier Aerospace president and chief operating officer head Guy Hachey said although several sales campaigns for the CRJ aircraft were making progress and the long-term prospects for the CRJ program remained positive, the reduced pace of orders has made a review of production plans necessary.

"For these reasons and after careful consideration, a CRJ aircraft production decrease is warranted in the short term," he said.

Bombardier had delivered 1,647 CRJs which can seat between 70-100 passengers by the end of July and had a backlog of only 61 orders.

Bombardier said that it expected to deliver 90 CRJs this year.
