International Lease Finance Corporation (ILFC), a subsidiary of American International Group, has placed a $950m order with CFM International for its advanced LEAP engine to power 40 new Airbus A320neo aircraft.
The delivery of the aircraft is scheduled to begin in 2016, and ILFC also has options for 20 additional aircraft.
LEAP offers 15% more fuel efficiency, a 50% margin compared to current nitrogen oxide requirements and is 10-15dB quieter, the company said.
ILFC has also signed a deal with Pratt & Whitney for engines for up to 100 Airbus A320neo family aircraft, which were ordered by ILFC as part of an order announced in early March.
Pratt & Whitney will also deliver 120 firm PurePower PW1100G engines for 60 aircraft beginning 2015 under the agreement.
As part of this agreement, each ILFC Airbus A320neo family aircraft will be powered by two PurePower PW1100G engines.
