Boeing has secured an order from Turkish Airlines to provide three twin-engine 777 Freighter aircraft for an undisclosed sum.

The latest order follows inclusion of two large cargo jets into Turkish Airlines’ fleet as part of the carrier’s strategy to expand its freight business.

Turkish Airlines board and the executive committee chairman Mİlker Aycı said: “These freighter orders will surely contribute to our significant target for establishing a young and efficient cargo fleet.

“These freighter orders will surely contribute to our significant target for establishing a young and efficient cargo fleet.”

“The new aircraft will be delivered this year and will provide us with additional flexibility to serve more destinations while we continue to develop our global freight service.”

The Boeing 777 Freighter is based on the company’s 777-200LR (Longer Range) passenger aircraft and is designed to fly 9,070km with a full payload of 112t.

The 777-300ER family of aircraft is powered by a GE90-115B engine and can accommodate up to 386 passengers in a three-class configuration.

According to Boeing, 777 Freighter operators can reduce landing fees, cargo handling costs and delivery times.

Last month, Boeing delivered a 777-300ER aircraft to UK-based aircraft leasing company Aviation.

The aircraft will be leased by Philippine Airlines.
