UN Climate Change Conference in December 2009: Copenhagen Accord

21 January 2010

The aerospace industry is battling with its carbon footprint in an effort to be more eco-friendly. Although, it is currently left out of carbon trading schemes, any legal change in emissions policy is of great importance to the industry.

In December 2009, leaders from around the world met in Copenhagen at the UN Climate Change Conference and produced the Copenhagen Accord. This is not a legally binding agreement, as was the case in the Kyoto Protocol in 1997, but it stresses the importance of cutting emissions around the world and forms the basis of proposals on how this should be done.
