UK Aviation: Carbon Reduction Futures
19 February 2010This paper determines the scope and cost of actions that can be taken by the UK domestic aviation sector to reduce its CO2 emissions in the 2007-2050 timeframe, and sets out baseline emissions for UK domestic flights, identifying and considering abatement options, estimating the impact of fleet emissions for each of the options and setting them against the cost of abatement.
The suggested options include engine and airframe technology, operational improvements and fleet management.
The interventions could enable the UK aviation sector to abate up to 14% of its CO2 emissions at negative or zero cost by 2012, and up to 17% if fuel prices rise to "very high" levels.
