Flight training courses

Barrier Aviation's flight school in Cairns provides flight training for pilots of all experience levels. Whether you are a student wanting to obtain a recreational licence, or perhaps a commercial licence, part-time or full-time, we can tailor a course for you.

At Barrier Aviation we like to give our students the best possible start, so we conduct training in aircraft that are commercially viable. For example, a large proportion of your CPL training is conducted in a Cessna 206, and we normally conduct instrument ratings in a Cessna 310. Both of these aircraft are widely used in the industry, and time on these types of aircraft improves your chances of employment.

All of the flight testing is done in-house by our own ATO.

Beginner-level flight training courses

Flight training courses for professional pilots

We also offer a range of training courses for professional pilots, including CIR - command instrument rating and multi-engine endorsement training.

Air charter services

Barrier Aviation provides friendly and efficient all-weather air charter services, anywhere, anytime and at competitive rates. With bases in Cairns, Darwin and the Torres Strait we can accommodate all charter requirements, including intra or inter-state, international flights, or local scenic flights over the expansive great barrier reef.

We specialise in Papua New Guinea and the Pacific, and can carry dangerous and difficult cargo as and when required.

The range of planes we offer for air charter includes:

• Cessna 402 - nine seats
• Cessna 310 - five seats
• Cessna 206 - five seats / freight
• Cessna 172RG - three seats

A CASA-approved testing officer is on staff, ensuring all our staff and flight crew maintain the very high levels of safety and professionalism that our clients have come to expect from us. We also handle a number of ground handling contracts, from our terminal at Cairns airport. Our air-conditioned passenger lounge ensures all of our customers are kept comfortable all year round.
