VPT High-Reliability Power Conversion Products for Aerospace Programmes

VPT is a leading supplier of power conversion solutions for critical power systems in aerospace applications such as launch vehicles and deepspace facilities.

The company provides reliable and highly efficient direct-current-to-direct-current (DC-DC) converters, electromagnetic interference filters (EMI), and other power accessories that conform to MIL-PRF-38534 Class H and Class K standards.

Remote and non-isolated DC-DC converters for aerospace projects

VPT’s remote and non-isolated synchronous, buck-regulated point-of-load DC-DC converters and EMI filters decrease the weight, heat, and cost of electronic board space.

Ranging from 6W-120W output options, the VPT SV and SVR Series offer radiation- tolerant and radiation-hardened products with varying levels of total ionising dose (TID) and single event effects (SEE) performance to suit several programme needs.

Cost-effective power converters for space operations

VPT provides two series of regular DC-DC converters and accessories that have been created and tested to operate in complex aerospace environments.

The isolated converters can be combined with the company’s non-isolated point of load converters and EMI filters to create a lightweight and highly cost-effective power system suitable for space applications.

Defense Logistics Agency-approved aerospace power converters

The SVR Series has a TID performance of 100 krad(Si) and SEE of 85MeV-cm²/mg.

The series complies with the technical operating report (TOR) requirements and conforms to MIL-PRF-38534 Class K that has been set out by the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) for Standard Microcircuit Drawings (SMD).

SVR DC-DC converters also include a DLA-approved radiation hardness assurance (RHA) plan.

VPT’s SV Series allows a 30 krad(Si) TID and a SEE of 44 MeV-cm²/mg. They are certified to MIL-PRF-38534 Class K by the DLA SMDs and have an RHA plan approved by the DLA.

Both series have a 28VIN and have standard industry output voltages. The DC-DC converters provide full performance across temperature ranges of -55°C-125°C.

The converters’ components are selected from NASA’s database of recommended radiation-hardened devices. They have fault-tolerant magnetic feedback circuits with multiple protection features and no optocouplers.

VPT’s converter components receive radiation lot acceptance testing (RLAT) at both high-dose rate (HDR) and extremely low-dose rate sensitivity (ELDRS).

Immediate delivery of power conversion systems

VPT understands project targets and the need for a quick turnaround. This is why the company maintains industry-leading stock levels, which allow for immediate delivery in almost all cases.

Leading customers around the world depend on VPT for innovative technology, fast product delivery, and certified quality.

VPT Series DC-DC Converters and Power Accessory Modules

Military and other high reliability system designers are under continual pressure to reduce costs and development times. Following the DoD’s “COTS Directive,” one of the primary methods of achieving these goals is to forego military standards and specifications, and instead use the best available commercial practices, standards, components, and hardware.
