AD Aerospace Achieves Boeing Offerabilty For EFB Camera Interface Unit

25 April 2005 09:20

CIU Will Give Improved Security Options to Boeing Customers

AD Aerospace has been awarded Boeing technical offerabilty for its FlightVu Camera Interface Unit (CIU) on Boeing 737, 747, 767 and 777 airplanes. This means airlines now can enhance their aircraft security and safety by having cameras, forward-fitted throughout the aircraft, linked to the flight crew’s Electronic Flight Bag (EFB).

The most common option is for a Flight Deck Entry Video Surveillance System (FDEVSS), this has two to four cameras positioned to cover the approach to the flight deck door and the forward galley areas. This enables the flight crew to confirm who is outside the secured flight deck door when entry is requested and that they are not acting under duress or that any potential threat is nearby.

Beyond FDEVSS the CIU can receive input from up to 16 cameras enabling coverage of the entire aircraft. This provides for various systems offering different advantages to the airline.

The CIU offers an extra advantage with recording of any incidents providing computer watermarked court admissible evidence. This enables the identification and prosecution of anyone seen committing an offence; the images can also be used for training of Cabin Crew on how to deal with situations as they arise.

“We at AD Aerospace believe that video systems and the CIU in particular are an important addition to aircraft safety and security,” said Mike Horne, Managing Director, AD Aerospace. “Knowledge that such systems are fitted to aircraft reduces the risk of an incident taking place and should anything occur make it possible for it to be dealt with more quickly and remedial action to take place with more certainty.”
