Becker Flugfunkwerk - Transponders and Avionics

Becker Avionics is closely associated with the birth of aviation in post-war Germany. In 1956 a little hangar was set up at the edge of a French military airfield in Baden-Baden. Within a few years this tiny air-strip at the foot of the Black Forest Mountains, became the Mecca for the small but committed community of German amateur aviators.

In the late 1960’s Becker Avionics furnished the German police and border control squadrons with specially developed audio systems. The company becomes an internationally renowned high-tech manufacturer for military and civil avionics. Engineers at Becker in Baden-Baden acquired the reputation of trendsetters in air traffic communication.

The list of "world firsts" in the company’s history includes first use of LC-displays for frequency indication, and first 21/4in fit VHF air radio, which can easily be installed in all types of cockpits. Today their handset for the Airbus A-320 has become an out-standing best-seller.

STATE-OF-THE-ART MODE-S TRANSPONDERS

Being the only manufacturer of transponders with more than 20 years of experience, we developed on the basis of our well proven ultra-compact and robust technique. Our 160mm US-Standard mount, Mode-S transponder, has been licensed by EA-SA21O.717. It works with an external address-module, in which the necessary aircraft data is saved. This unique procedure prevents errors in programming and offers considerably advantages in case of necessary maintenance.

For most experimental aircraft, a class 2 transponder will be sufficient. Nevertheless, there is a class 1 version available that is licensed for flight levels above 15.000ft. As an ideal complement for the class 2 transponder, we offer an ultra-compact Becker altitude encoder. Furthermore Becker has developed a perfect retrofit for the King KT76A which makes upgrading rather easy.

GLOBAL STRATEGIES FOR THE 21ST CENTURY

Although a Becker Avionics branch was originally set up in France, the centre of general aviation is across the Atlantic in the United States. On-the-spot presence enables Becker to react with highest flexibility to the particular needs of the American market.

Due to geo-graphical dimensions and economic growth rates Eastern-Europe, Russia, China, India, and Brazil will become key markets in the next 20 years. Brazil is already the second largest market for business aircraft. Becker Avionics International accompanies this development through own branches in China, Taiwan, Brazil and Russia.

LEADING AVIONICS SUPPLIER

Becker Avionics plan to extend our leading international position as a high-tech avionics supplier for light fixed-wing and rotary aircraft. We aim to be:

  • A world leading supplier of audio systems for rotary and fixed wing aircraft
  • Prepared for the new challenges of the avionic retrofit market
  • A proud, reliable and competent partner of the avionic industry

We will achieve our goals through cutting edge technologies and services based on the legacy of our long lasting experience as avionic manufacturer combined with customer orientation and flexibility.

It is a great challenge for Becker Avionics International to bring affordable innovative digital products early to the marketplace. With its mode-S-transponder, digital intercom, computer display and VHF data link equipment for ground use, Becker has clearly shown its will and capability to make a major contribution to the ongoing silent revolution in air transport.
