Metzeler Technical Rubber Systems - Non-Textile Flooring (NTF) and Sealing Systems

Metzeler Technical Rubber Systems is a leader in the manufacture and sale of Non-Textile Flooring (NTF) and sealing systems for the aviation industry.

Metzeler Airfloor and Airflex Non-Textile Flooring (NTF) material is the only NTF in the industry which is manufactured from silicone and laminated to an integral structural backing. Other manufacturers use PVC-based materials which have inherent disadvantages.

SILICONE RUBBER FLOOR COVERING

Legacy NTF or "galley mat" is constructed from PVC (plastic). Typical problems with these older materials include shrinkage, failed seams, bubbling and premature wear. The most significant consequence of these failures is corrosion. With silicone rubber construction, Metzeler NTF provides superior performance in these areas, thereby reducing operating costs for the airline from day one.

Key advantages of Metzeler NTF over PVC-based competitors include:

  • Chemical bonding between Floorsil sealant and Airfloor / Airflex wear surface provides a durable bond, better than welding, without the hassle of special tools and processes that can result in quality control problems; effective sealing and seaming are critical to corrosion prevention
  • The silicone rubber is vulcanized, providing dimensional stability (no shrinkage) and avoiding failure of perimeter seal due to material pulling away from areas like the door threshold; no shrinkage also means Metzeler can effectively pre-cut sections for reduced installation time
  • Integral structural reinforcement – no additional lamination required for Airbus applications (i.e. Wulfmeyer process)

When installed with Floorsil sealant, the Metzeler aircraft floor covering system delivers superior performance in durability, seal and seam integrity, and ease of installation. This assures maximum corrosion prevention.

AIRFLOOR - STANDARD SUPPLIER FURNISHED EQUIPMENT SELECTION FOR AIRBUS AIRCRAFT

The robust and lightweight construction of Airfloor NTF continues to be the standard Supplier Furnished Equipment (SFE) selection of choice for Airbus aircraft among the Metzeler products. This two-layer backing material was first introduced in its original form during the mid-1980s. Superior telegraphing resistance, high-wear resistance and ease of installation and maintenance continue to drive demand for Airfloor, particularly for Airbus OEM requirements.

On Airbus aircraft, Metzeler Airfloor NTF is offered as supplier furnished equipment standard 1 for high quality, and is qualified to Airbus specification 2520M1M015501.

AIRFLEX GP - NEW LIGHTWEIGHT FLOOR COVERING FOR BOEING NTF APPLICATIONS

Constructed with a single layer of advanced structural reinforcement and utilizing the same proven silicone rubber wear surface, Airflex GP is the preferred solution for large mixed fleets at some of the most prestigious airline operators worldwide.

Metzeler is available as SFE on the new 787 Dreamliner and is currently selectable as BFE on other Boeing aircraft platforms. All Metzeler Airfloor®, Airflex® and Floorsil® products meet the flammability requirements of FAR / JAR 25.853 (b-2).

FLOORSIL 2 SILICONE FLOOR SEALANT

Floorsil 2 is the preferred silicone sealant for Airfloor, Airflex, and even PVC NTF systems. Specially formulated to provide an extremely durable, watertight barrier, Floorsil 2 is available in a number of colors to match the NTF.
