The casting industry has recently gone through rapid advancements in commercial simulation technology. Metal casting process-analysis software is available not only for thermal and flow modelling, but also for the calculation of grain size, porosity and mechanical properties simulation.
The Razi metallurgical research centre introduced a software package for casting simulation, SUTCAST, in 1984, and through extensive research and comprehensive industrial trails it has been developed in to a powerful casting-simulation tool.
SUTCAST is now accepted as a powerful numeric simulation system for solidification and fluid flow modelling, currently used in over 100 large foundries producing ferrous and non-ferrous metal castings from a few grams in investment casting processes, to over 200t in steel mill machinery parts.
K&Y Engineering is pleased to announce the introduction of SUTCAST, a WPIO award winner casting simulation, to UK industries, through a joint venture with the Razi metallurgical research centre.
SUTCAST is a tool for foundry process analysis, which offers key features such as:
SUTCAST can be used for many applications, from solidification simulation and mould filling to casting defect prediction for sand, ingot, die casting and many more.
SUTCAST can be broken into two aspects. Firstly, there is fluid flow analysis, which includes:
Secondly, there is solidification modelling, featuring:
