Refurbishment of Luxury Seats for Fokker 70 Government Aircraft

17 October 2007 18:21

Martinair Holland has commissioned Aircraft Interior Services (AIS) to refurbish 12 luxury seats fitted in the Fokker 70 VIP aircraft that is in use for royal and governmental transport needs. The seats were carefully removed from the aircraft and transported to the Interior Workshop of AIS, located at Schiphol Airport.

Each seat was taken apart and inspected, and the armrests have been fitted with new leather upholstery and under laying foams. The specialists at AIS have produced special moulds in the exact contour of the armrests in order to form the new leather in exactly the right shape.

The fabric upholstery of the seats was still in good condition. They have been restored to their original lustre by cleaning without the need for removal. The cleaning agents were applied to the fabric and extracted together with the accumulated dirt.

After re-assembly, the seat mechanisms were adjusted to ensure their proper functioning.

After three weeks, the seats were returned with a EASA 145 form 1 certificate issued by AIS, and were re-fitted into the aircraft.

Aircraft Interior Services is the ideal partner to carry out refurbishments of aircraft interiors. Partial refurbishments are sometimes an effective alternative to fully refurbishing the aircraft interior, both in terms of downtime and investment required.
