(UN)MANNED Certified Avionics Software

(UN)MANNED is a software company that offers certified avionics to unmanned and manned aviation aircraft for aerospace and commercial aviation clients.

Unmanned and manned avionics software development

As the different technologies for aviation software become increasingly interchangeable, it is important for software to be equally flexible and adaptable to the market. (UN)MANNED focuses on both manned and unmanned avionics technologies to provide its clients with a full knowledge and choice of software. This has resulted in the company providing advanced solutions such as improved sky traffic software to improve tower integration and reduce pilot workload.

(UN)MANNED also specialises in creating systems with simple but informative user interfaces that enable the client to confidently and efficiently understand the state of their project and adapt it to sudden changes.

Pre-certified and pre-defined aviation software

In order for an aviation software project to be released onto the market, it must first be certified by a national aviation authority. This can only be done by achieving all 71 objectives listed as part of the DO-178C standard. Given that last minute changes to software can commonly cause long delays in the certification process, it can take project managers much more time and effort to release a new product to the market than originally forecasted.

Often software development companies offer automatic code generation to help project managers organise the schedule and development for their avionics software; however, these only aid seven of the 71 objectives. (UN)MANNED’s software solution, Sol, is the only system to successfully manage and update all 71 objectives.

Sol uses a formula based on pre-defined and pre-certified applications that is adjusted according to the data supplied by clients, which produces input / output channels and widgets that enable the client to see the projected completion of different parts in their avionics software. (UN)MANNED personnel are also available to analyse the Sol results and advise clients on the execution of tasks to meet their project requirements.

Projects are expected to change from the initial plan, which is why Sol can adapt its configurations at any time in the process. Inputs, outputs and formulas can be re-evaluated whenever a new piece of information is introduced, even at high frequency, to the extent that Sol can produce near real-time performance results on projects.

Easy-to-use and ARINC 661 compliant aviation software

As Sol is pre-certified and does not require the user to have extensive knowledge of complicated mathematics or code writing, the development time is dramatically reduced and users can construct much more advanced software systems, such as a mission computer or data acquisition unit, than they would be able to on other systems.

Sol is also fully compliant with ARINC 661, the cockpit display standard, and allows clients to continue using their original screens and existing tools, providing a more cost-effective and familiar approach to software development.

Document auto-generation

Project times can be accelerated through Sol software, as it auto-generates all documentation required for certification. Sol can also provide necessary supplementary documentation for PSAC schedules, system description or liaison permits to help keep a project on schedule.

In addition to this, as Sol automatically completes the coding, unit testing and detailed specification processes, project work is reduced, and consequently so is the time to completion. After a project is completed, it also generates all executed and associated DO-178C documentation.

Risk reduction for aviation software certification

By fully utilising the Sol software system, clients can receive a reduction in the risk taken to gain certification for aviation software and a reduction in the workload required. The flexibility of Sol means clients can also receive near real-time updates about the status of their project and even create more advanced systems than they previously thought due to the system’s user-friendly interface and simplified system. These factors, combined with the auto-generation of documentation, make Sol an efficient choice to ensure a project is completed to its project time.
