Advanced materials research projects

Huntsman Advanced Materials is an active partner in challenging research projects funded by the EU commision (FP6), such as PreCarBi and ABITAS.

PreCarBi focuses on the development of new materials, such as carbon fibers and liquid resins, as well as supporting technologies already proven on a laboratory scale that bring together prepreg and liquid composite molding technologies to combine the advantage of each.

ABITAS addresses the need for fundamental advancement on structural adhesive bonding of small (e.g. fittings) and high aspect ratio areas (e.g. stringers to skin) with paste adhesives for aerospace applications.

Araldite® LY 8615/Aradur® 5212 two-component resin - features include:

• Two-component system for the manufacture of high temperature composite moulds
• Ideal for the manufacture of large scale molds
• Is processed by infusion at room temperature or (30-40°C/ 85-105°F)
• Long pot-life
• Demoulding after low temperature cure (30-40°C/ 85-105°F)
• To value of above 177°C ( 350°F) after post-curing

Araldite® 1570 FST A/B epoxy adhesive - features include:

• Two-component epoxy adhesive for aircraft interiors
• Optimized for bonding thermoplastics
• Outstanding flame, smoke and toxicity (FST) properties
• Qualified to AIMS 10-04-006
• Meets requirements of FAR/JAR/CS 25 App. F, part 1 and 5, AITM 2.0007 and AITM 3.0005

Araldite® 1644-A/B low density epoxy syntactic - features include:

• Very low density epoxy syntactic for edge reinforcing of honeycomb structures
• Easy extrusion and easy spread with a putty knife
• Cure at room temperature
• Sanded and machined easily after curing
• High compressive strength
• Meets requirements of AIMS 10-03-001

Araldite® MY 0600 multifunctional epoxy resin - features include:

• Optimized for use in a wide variety of formulating applications including adhesives, laminating systems, etc
• Can be used as a viscosity modifier and with slow reactivity resins to boost their rate of cure
• Araldite® MY 0600 provides in formulations ideal combination of high modulus and good toughness, with high hot / wet performance
