UK-based aerospace group Meggitt has unveiled its plans to build a new facility in the West Midlands with a £130m investment.

The 440,000ft² facility will be situated at Ansty Park in Coventry and developed by Meggitt in collaboration with its partners.

Expected to employ up to 1,000 people, the facility will perform various operations such as the development of aircraft braking solutions and control systems, as well as offer corporate shared services, customer services and support.

“We will accelerate Meggitt’s ability to meet the current and future needs of our customers worldwide.”

The facility is also expected to help Meggitt to strategically position its future business growth and will serve as a hub for next-generation aerospace innovation and research and development (R&D) activities.

It is expected to become operational by the end of 2019.

Meggitt will also establish an engineering and manufacturing centre of excellence at the new site for developing future aerospace thermal management technology.

The Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI) has supported the development of the technology with a £3.7m R&D award from the UK’s Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.

Meggitt chief operating officer Tony Wood said: “This planned new facility, adjacent to the manufacturing technology centre and advanced manufacturing training centre, marks a major advance in the development of our global manufacturing footprint and strategically positions us for sustainable growth.

“By bringing world-class innovation and operational delivery together on this site, we will accelerate Meggitt’s ability to meet the current and future needs of our customers worldwide.”

Meggitt currently employs more than 11,000 people at over 40 manufacturing sites and regional offices worldwide.
